CDL Linkage for 2001 V8 automatic
DiscoBell:
I know there is a lot of talk about cdl & the various ways of being able to activate it.
I would really appreciate some advice regarding options available to me. I called Graeme Cooper auto & he tells me he cannot assist me with his linkage system as mine is an auto.
What other options do i now have? AMV kit? Has anyone been down this route & what are there thoughts? I have heard some concerns about this system packing up after about year.
Any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Hi Discobell. The first thing you need to do is establish if your transfer case has the CDL installed. LR didn't install the CDL for around 2 years starting from late 2001. What month build is yours? This info is available on the compliance plate on the inside of the right hand wheel arch under the brake master cylinder. Also, do you know where to feel around at the front of the transfer case for the CDL bolt? Where are you, if in Melb eastern side I or someone else would I'm sure be willing to have a look (feel) under your D2 if you're not sure where to look (feel).
Now, assuming that you have the CDL installed, the best option is the genuine CDL linkage from the updated D2a model. These are sometimes available from wreckers here in Aus, but if not, can be sourced from the UK at http://www.discoparts.com/asp/d-no.asp?ProductID=270&Process=1&CatID=6&SubCatID=0 for 245 UK pounds. A number of group members have used these kits with success.
Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure i have the parts, mine is an early 2001 & i have felt the spigot/nipple that all the forums mention so i am pretty confident i have the parts just missing the linkages.
The linkages you mention from a D2a from a wreker or our british mates would that be compatable with an automatic??
Why would Graeme Cooper's system not be able to work with an auto??
My mechanical knowledge is non existent!
Ps, i am sydney based.

Graeme Coopers only works on the manual because it's a linkage setup to engage when you select low range and there's not enough room in the transmission tunnel for his linkage system, the Factory D2a system is cable operated, this is why it will work on the auto, it doesn't need as much room.
Have a look here at the cable for the D2a system.
Baz.

Thanks Baz,
If i can get my hands on one of the D2a linkages from a wrecker or elsewhere, do you know where i could get this fitted in Sydney??
