Leaking back to back seal (gear box to transfer case)

(1/1)

BoosBus:
Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with leaking back to back seals / leaking gear box seals.  We have had the issue fixed several times through land rover dealer...this time, the vehicle being in warranty by 700km, we have been told by land rover dealer that this is a very common problem and we can expect to have to strip out the gear box every 50,000km and replace the seals.  Just wondering if anyone else has been fed this lot of tripe as well?
Cheers, Amber.

Winaje:
Hi Amber.  Not sure which seals you mean.  Are you talking about the seals that are in between gearbox and the transfer case?  Do you have an auto or manual?

BoosBus:
Hi Will,
It is the seal between the gear box and transfer case.  The vehicle is a 2003 TD5 Auto.  After speaking to LR dealer again this afternoon, they have told us that anyone with this model d2 can expect to have to replace their seals every 40,000 - 60,000km...at a cost of 900 bucks a pop!!!!
Just wondering if anyone else has been told similar, or experienced similar.
Cheers, Amber.

Winaje:
Yep, I have had that seal leaking for the last 130k or so.  I just ignore it, personally.  I might get around to replacing the seals, but I have got only the occasional drop, so have not bothered.  It is definitely a common problem, and I was quoted about $550 for a local LR specialist to do the job.
