SRS WARNING LIGHT

(1/2) > >>

pjferg:
I have a 2000 TD5 auto and a Gremlin has reared its ugly head.  Over the last few days the SRS warning light on the dash has been going out after starting engine, then coming back on again and staying on!!  Looking in the owners manual it says that means that there is a fault with the SRS (air bag) system.  Anyone had a similar problem and any ideas on rectifying this problem.
Thanks,
Fergy.

COULD BE MOISTURE IN THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER PLUG UNDER THE FRONT SEATS - BE CAREFUL IF YOU UNPLUG THIS THE BAGS COULD GO OFF.
GO TO A SERVICE CENTRE THAT HAS DIAGNOSTICS & THEY CAN READ THE FAULT & CLEAR IT.

Hi Fergy
Belive I can help.
I put up with this in mine for 6 months till the cure was mentioned on AULRO.
It is most likely the connections under the seats as Chuck suggests. But not moisture,it will be the seat that gets adjusted most,ie drivers for the usually smaller SWMBO.No need to disconnect, just wriggle the connections and push together tight. You will see the ones bright yellow SRS coded wires.Did mine problem fixed.
The other cause of this is a low battery voltage,if the wire wiggle dont work go plan B and get your battery load tested to see if its cactus.

That same trick fixed my SRS light also.

Guys, as said it is most likely to be the plug under the seat, i would do both as the indicator light on the dash doesnt tell u which connector it is.
Turn vehicle off, disconnect battery(i am erring on the safe side) & unplug the connector under the seat, if u are technically minded or electrically minded proceed, remove pins from plug(remember which way they go!)you will find the tensioner on the pin has given up & the connection is under no pressure so it bsically connects-disconnetcs therefore logging an error & lighting up the SRS light. I have had many through the w/shop including mine do this.
Good luck & please be careful working on SRS systems.
