gloplug light stays on for long time

Hi all,
I have an issue where the glo-plug light stays on for ages.  It will eventually go off after all the other warning lights and of course the Disco then gives that annoying chime.  There doesn't seem to be any other problem and I  have got in to the habit of just waiting a few sec's before starting.  More annoying than anything, any one know what may cause this??

Winaje:
Hi Derek.  I've personally never seen this issue, and I have one of the oldest TD5's on the group.  I used to live in Canberra and Cooma, regularly starting in -7 and lower temperatures, with the D2 out in the snow etc.

To be honest, even then I rarely used the glo system, just turned the key and started straight away.  I seem to remember that there is an extra cold start injector in the head, and it stays active until the motor starts to warm up.

I don't know much more about it than that, but I'm sure that there will be others who can help you further.

Graeme:
Actually, there's no extra injector, rather, there's only 4 glow plugs, and the ecm can keep them on after the engine has started until a particular temperature is reached.
The light/chimes is indicating that one or more glow-plugs has a problem - either with the plug itself, the wiring or the relay.  Testbook/T4 would help in identifying the problem.

Thanks Graeme, nearest Testbook is 1100km away so I'll just have to put up with it until I can drive out to Darwin.

You can't think of any self diagnostics I can do without Testbook?  My understanding is the gloplugs are controlled through the ECM and a relay.  The problem coincidently started after the ECU was removed for reprogramming, is it possible I just don't have it seated correctly?

As for cold, I don't think that's a problem - I'm currently freezing up here it must have got to about 16C last night and the last 2 days haven't really crawled much above 26C

Cheers
