steering noise

Hi all,
I have a 97 DTI and I have always had a noise in the steering when turning at slow speed such as parking. The noise is best discribed a rumbling . The dealer's service dept said that this was fluid going through the pipes and cannot be fixed without a major expence. Has anyone got any onfo on this please.

Hi Jim,

My 200Tdi & 300tdi suffered from the same thing.
I could of replaced the steering pump but in the end decided not too.
The pump lasted years & i know the owner of my 300tdi (97my) & he has asked the same..leave it it will be ok. It hasnt failed as of yet.
It just the pump, when it dies replace it then, save a little money. :P
