bruce:
Is it only possible to clear faults such as TC, ABS, Hill decent resulting from a faulty ABS wheel sensor via test book. Or is there another means to re-set the fault indicators.
Regards
Bruce

Redback:
Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour then reconnecting it can sometimes clear faults.

I've not had a chance to try it, but there is a product called a "scangage" which may also be able to do this.

Try http://www.scangage.com although I suspect it's still cheaper just to get the dealer to reset it.  But do get them to tell you WHICH sensor was reporting the fault so if it happens a 2nd and/or 3rd time, you'll know it's definitely due for replacement.

You can get a replacement sensor without replacing the entire wheel hub assembly.

TRIKFAB:
Will the http://www.scangage.com/ work on a 99 model series 2 ?

Graeme:
Even if the Scangauge will read and clear errors from the engine ecu (which, I believe, only works on some D2s), it does not attempt to read errors from other ecus, such as SLABS.

I intend looking further into the ELMSCAN 5 unit that comes with free software SCANTOOL, or other software that can be used with it.  The AUS distributor said that it has been tested on a 2003 Disco TD5 and works well.  Whilst SCANTOOL software is only for the engine ecu, if that does really work then other software like OBD-2 has a chance of reading and clearing errors with all the ecus.  ELMSCAN 5 is the hardware interface to work with software running on a PC.  It costs about $200 and also supports CAN protocol for future vehicles.
