TD5 temp light update
(1/1)
:
LR have advised that, after much discussion, the Discovery TD5 high temperature warning light operates to specifications. However, they are concerned enough to have forwarded my test results to the UK. (My testing showed that it does not work.)
I will post updates here.
Meanwhile, I have built my own micro-processor monitor that reads the digital temperature signal from the ECM that is used by instruments to drive the gauge, as my testing has given me confidence in the ECMs temperature. My unit operates the gearbox high-temperature warning light, because the coolant temperature warning light is not accessible from outside instruments. Whilst its only been installed for 1 day, at both 26deg and 30deg ambient temp, the coolant gets to 100deg for a few secs then drops below again for a while. This is not surprising, as the thermostat only fully opens at 96deg.
It flashes a few times at startup, after waiting for the instruments self-test to finish with the light. It flashes different patterns for different temperature ranges, sounding an alarm as the temperature gets dangerously high. Currently it starts at 100deg, giving a short 50ms flash every 3 seconds, from 105 2 short flashes, from 110 a long 500ms flash every 2 secs, from 113 a long flash every 1 sec, from 115 a long flash every 1 sec and sounds the alarm at the same time as the flash, from 117 light hard on and sounds the alarm continuously. I have used 117 rather than LR's 121. If the lower ranges prove to be normal-use, then I can easily raise them later.
Sniegy:
Nice work Graeme, good to see someone taking the initiative. I know its after the fact but well done. :P :P
