Fuel Filter protection
« on: August 13, 2008, 03:30:53 PM »
Having recently purchased a TD5, I am a bit concerned with the placement of the fuel filter! Are they prone to damage by rocks etc, as i am planning a trip outback and dont feel like loosing all my fuel via a hole being punctured in it. I still think I might make a protection plate for it anyway.

Hi Paul, a couple of people on here have made guards for the filter.  I have not heard of anyone actually damaging the filter, but if you are going into a rock prone area I would definitely recommend some sort of guard.
Kind Regards, Will Church

I have never had any issues with the fuel filter being damaged and trust my Disco get a beating, we have done all sorts of rocky terrain with not a scratch on it.

BUT that doesn't mean it won't happen, if it gives you peice of mind, then make a guard for it.

Welcome to the forum ;D

My brother-in-law almost got stuck in the high country a couple of weeks ago. Cause? Stick "jumped up", smashing the plastic cap on the fuel filter, and damaging one of the brass screw in fittings. Fuel everwhere, no pressure, luckily able to dodgy something up with airline fittings.
