Campertrailers who has one and what make is it
« on: December 03, 2007, 09:05:25 AM »
I have a Redback Country, with most of the mods done by me at home.

The trailer was made by Ray Clarke of Clarkes Country Campers and has a unique feature, that other trailer don't, a walk in section/front storage, it also allows easy entry to the bed.

The tent top was made by Redback, very poor quality IMO >:(

The rest is DIY

Kitchen,Sink and tap

12v/240v
stone guard, improved by me
battery box and smart charger
new windows on the front annex wall
water filter
pump
Bosch hot water system

Hi Redback, I'd be interested to hear what works and what doesn't.

I'm looking at getting an off-road camper in the first half of next year and going through the options, forums etc is mind numbing.

The best thing to do is hire first, this will give you a better idea of what suits you, we did it this way.

Start with a soft floor camper first, then a hard floor, then try a Jayco style pop top.

Soft floor campers are the cheapest and have the most room, they range from $3000 to $18,000, depending on the options, ours is a soft floor camper.

Hard floor campers (ie) Kimberly/Aussie swag/Cub are sopposed to be easier to erect and pack up and most of the gear is already standard in the camper, they range from $18,000 to $70,000.

The Pop Tops are the easiest to set up and come with everything as standard, these range from $21,000 to $50,000, one tip about the Pop Tops, Jayco DON'T make an Offroad model, the so called Offroad models they have (Outback) are NOT a desinated Offroad camper.

Thanks for the reply Baz,

Hiring is unfortunately not possible due to my remote location.

We've decided on a hard floor as this gives us a better base in wet season conditions in the tropics.

As for the Jayco's we had a good look at these at the Melbourne 4x4 show and whilst they are well made I'd not want to take them off-road where I go.  Not true off-road setup and no dust or water seals and air vents in the panels means they would become very dirty (or wet inside).

At this stage we like the T-Van, Kimberly and a few others in the same style as the Kimberly.
