Changing CD Stacker
« on: October 31, 2007, 06:48:15 PM »
Hi Guys,

I own a '00 TD5 DII. It currently has a CD player with a 6-stacker under the seat. I was looking at changing the head unit to one that plays MP3's. What I wasn't sure of though, is if I change the head unit, will the stacker still work, or will the new head unit work straight with the existing stacker??

If anyone has any idea, or have done this before any input would be great!

Ive just got the regular CD player but thinking of using the latest FM transmitters with a MP3 player attached which plugs in to the cig. lighter to stay on constant charged-- let you know how it goes.

Best to take the stacker to the shop where you plan to buy the aftermarket unit and get them to see what head unit will accept the stacker plug (oh, this might be difficult - take a picture of the plug behind the head unit and show that to the dealer.

I think the head unit is made by Aidiovox.

I'd be keen to know how you go.  I also have a 00 TD5....my stacker however is not still in the vehicle.... ???  Be interesting if I can still utilise the existing wiring for a new stacker and head unit.

If they say the stacker will work with the new head unit you're buying I guess I've got a good chance at utilising the wiring.

Thanks

There are usually adapter cables that will allow you to plug a CD stacker into the existing head unit.  Sorry, but I can't find a link to the cables, maybe do a search online...

I found that nobody could supply a stacker that would work with the LR head unit when my stacker died. Ended up having Sony head unit which plays MP3 and Sony 10 disc stacker installed. Using MP3 discs that I burn myself at home, I now have just about all of my music permanently in the vehicle.

Another thing I found (later) was that the LR speakers sounded crap with the Sony head unit. So now have Sony speakers, plus amp under the passengers seat and sub in the back where one of the storage bins was previously located. It's finally a decent system after a few dollars. While I usually fit most of my own accessories and know how to wire most things up - I let the experts fit all of the sound system gear. Too much like hard work for me - and they have all the decent speaker wire, power leads, fittings etc on hand.

Excellent, glad to know that you have been able to get a good system running.  Would you be able to take a couple of photos and add them here too, please?
