« on: August 22, 2007, 02:21:25 PM »
Does anybody out there in D2 land know of a shop in south east queensland that i can get to remap an exchange ECU i'm going to get from triumph rover spares. Mike from trt has informed me that it needs a rovacom or equivalent machine.

There are plenty of Land Rover specialists in south east qld.  A quick search of yellow pages online for Land Rover will yield heaps.  In my and my father's experience M.R Automotive in Redcliffe is worth the trip.  I live in Brisbane CBD and work on the south side, but the still make the lengthy trip North to these guys for good reason.  Between my dad and I we own three Land Rovers and M.R. Automotive take care of all of them.  They are Land Rover and Mini specialists.  My old man was quitely guided to these guys by the serice manager at a Land Rover dealer who will remain nameless.

M.R. Automotive
182 Anzac Ave, Redcliffe.
3284 6688.

I have heard a lot of dodgy stories from other crews from my dad and others and I don't recommend mechanics lightly.  You will get great service, knowledge and much cheaper parts through M.R. Automotive because they order directly from Land Rover in the UK, not Land Rover Australia.  I could go on and on..... these are the only mechanics I have ever trusted with any car.

I think you said something about these guys before. I will definately have to go visit them. I have an issue withe the Traction Control, ABS HDC lights on the disco so i might take it up to them to have a look at.

Thanka for the address and details

I was out there last Friday with exactly the same thing.  Luckily I only had an intermitant front left sensor fault.  They cleared the codes from the SLABS ECU and they haven't come back.  If they do I will just replace the sensor which is quite cheap.  I was concerned that it may have been a fault with the ABS modulator, as they cost something like $3000 to replace.  Don't freak out though.....I found out that M.R. Automotive do exchange ABS modulators and rebuild them for around $450.  How good is that?  Land Rover don't tell you that they can be rebuilt.    For those that are interested its not just a shuttle valve replacement.

Discokid86,

I just reread your first post.  Are you looking to get someone to do the remap, or just install a remapped ECU by changing the injector codes.  If you are looking for a remap, I do not know whether M.R. Automotive do that.  They might, but they certainly do the install.  For the actual remap you would probably be best off leaving that to people who have spent years developing and optimising the programs using dynos.  People like Bruce Davis from Davis Performance Landys in Sydney or by the sounds of Will's messages Mike Hays at Total Rover Tech in South Australia.  M.R. Automotive can do the install for you.  Give them (M.R.) a call and see who they recommend.  For $440, it would be hard to go past the TRT ECUs.

Don't worry.  I just went to triumph rover spares website.  By the looks of things your exchange ecu will already be remapped and you just need the injector codes to be entered once you have retrieved them from your current ECU.  M.R. do that within an hour for you while you wait.

yeah i beleive thats true. Mike said they just need to be entered in and away you go. Unfortunateky trt dont provide any ECU upgrades for non-flashable ecu's anymore for some reason hence why he directed me to the triumph guys

be careful with remapping. I had this done and then experienced severe financial pain. The was a problem with a flat spot at high revs (3800-4200rpm), shudders and stalls etc, excessive fuel consumption. To cut a long story short the ECU was found to be stuffed requiring a new one. i am still trying to sort out if my ECU was exchanged (for a faulty one) or if the original ECU was remapped then did that cause a fault or was it caused through some other means.
