Problems starting D2's
« on: June 04, 2006, 09:39:56 AM »
Please start a new thread under the "Radio Interference Locations" heading with details of the place that you are reporting.

I decided that I needed to start a new forum, because there are a lot of places where people park their D2's, and then can't start them again.

This is caused by radio interference, usually from a wireless barcode scanner ordering system in a nearby shop, often a chemist.

The frequency used by the shop is in the same band on the spectrum as the security system in the D2.  The vehicle senses this as it queries the key during startup, and interprets it as an attempt to find it's frequency, so disables the startup sequence.

Usually you only need to find the chemist, and ask them to disable their wireless ordering system so you can start your car.  Most of the staff there have probably had it happen before, so will not be surprised...

Ideally I hope to make a list in this forum, with a location and who to speak to in which shop.

I suggest you also post what year your Disco is and (if you know it) what alarm frequency it uses.  General rule is anything post 03MY D2a is 433MHz and the first lot of D2's were all 315MHz, but it all changed somewhere before the introduction of the 03MY Disco's.

Hi All
I was just reminded about the starting problems again yesterday when the better half got home from line dancing the Disco would not start again and only started after a lot of turning over and when it did start there was a heap of black smoke came out of the exhaust the only interference that i can see about is the remote entry light at the local community hall. There are not any shops with scanners for about a klm and only the RFS building next door.
Regards
Doug

Have noticed that the few times the D2 hasn't started was when I was too quick on turning the key and not waiting for the glow plug to go out.
fix was stop, turn engine off, wait two minutes for the glow plugs to cool down, turn the key to get the glow plugs light to light up wait for it to go out count to 2 then start, no problems.
Trouble was just turning over the engine or letting go of the key and trying again was even thou the G/P light was off so where the plugs...
