Hey guys , just wondering if anyone has fitted up one to a TD5 auto ?
I had a good look into Mike Casey's CDL but with exchange rates i would be up for $800
The L/R Expert site has a set up for $410 http://www.lrexpert.com.au/main.php

this would be a whole lot cheaper and leaves me more money for other toys

whilst on the subject i was told to "GET RID OF THE TRACTION CONTROL" as it will get me bogged every single time  :?:
Is this right or does the guy in question not know how to drive with it in sand ?

thanx heaps in advance GURU'S

Hi Sith.

My personal choice would/will be the cable actuated system that http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/176.html do, as there is, in my opinion, far less to go wrong with a push/pull cable.

Prices are about $400.  This is the same kit as LR Expert, as they are distributors.
Kind Regards, Will Church

Sith,

Have just fitted LR Automotive CDL kit - very professional & good value for money.
As for the traction control - if you engage the CDL with the engine off the traction control will be disabled. If you engage with the motor  running the traction control remains operative.
This is the way it was explained to me or the way I understood it.
I was lucky enough to go on the recent Toolangi trip where I could not get up one particular hill without the CDL being engaged.
Fortunately for me  Simon & Phil engaged my CDL using a 10mm spanner after I reversed back down the hill.
On the 2nd attempt I got up no worries the CDL being engaged makes for an easier & more surefooted drive.

Regards

Chuck

And while you're at it - ignore anyone that says you don't want the traction control (ETC) as well.  The combo of CDL engaged and trction control is fantastic, and will get you through most situations.  Not the same as having air lockers front and rear - but really worthwhile, even in sand, where I have heard some say you don't want it.

But yes - do get that CDL actuator of some sort!

cheers

Simon

Ask them for the weight and the box cubing size.  Seems pretty expensive to me, have a look at www.austpost.com.au and see what you can work out...

Hopefully Your bosses old one won't die on mine then!! 8O  8O

The guy that is fitting it for me used to run AMV's work shop - so hopefully he knows the tricks ......

I guess I'll see - but at the price I paid at least it won't hurt too much if I have some dramas..

I got the AMV CDL and have not had any probs at all, and trust me i do alot of water crossings, mud, sand, dust, and a whole lot more, as an excample on our Simpson trip we encountered a stretch of water 4 ks long and this is after 340ks of salt mud flats and desert sand.

The AMV unit is good and so far 30,000ks,  no probs.

As far as i know the manual one only engages in low range and not high range.

Also keep the traction control it works brilliant in any condition, gives you an edge over the rest.

I developed the Morse cable CDL  for my 99 about six years ago, and then posted it. It would seem commercial operators picked it up.  Though it isn't rocket science and anyone could.

Locking the CDL does not disable TC, nor in 5+ years of use all over the country has there been any problem with both operating at the same time.  As many will be aware CDL +TC gives about the equivalent of 4WD and a 1 locked diff.

I don't know how many people by this time have also disconnected the CDL light from the system and connected it directly to the diff lock switch. However, if this is done then the computer does not know that the CDL is active and all the other lights etc. go away and the system operates as any early model Disco or RR.

Cheers

Yep i wouldn't be without my TC i love it, and when i have the CDL engaged and i am going to stop for a break i disengage the CDL so when i restart the car the TC and ABS is not decativated, i just re-engage the CDL and off i go.
