I have a TX 610 GME which I use for winching for the runner which works great, only dissappointment is the volume control, volume from 3-7 doesn't alter, it's pretty loud which is good for what I use it for. Picked it up for $89. I use TX 3200 GME incar, cost $325.

Chuck - UNiden do some great handhelds.  You can often pick up a pair with a recharger for something over 100 - or single for 70-80.  Dick Smith, Tandy, 4wd accessory shops.  Make sure you get one that can be recharged - there are some that only do a standard battery so you have to chuck them out and replace all the time.  You can get car chargers for some of them too.

A pair is useful - you can have one charging, and use the other - or if you trips with others, that don't have a radio etc.  Also check the range - the .5W are just OK - fine for winching instructions, but they get useless car to car if there is too much distance b/w.  get the 1W version if you can.

cheers,

Simon

Good buy Chuck,

I have found this set up good, with this receiver you can mount up above the mirror on the roof as it has a speaker built into the base. The next step is choosing the right arial. My suggestion is go the fibreglass 1200mm long & mount on the fr. bar this way you don't have to be too worried about undercover carparks. But if this is still a concern you can purchase a shorter one as well & interchange them by unscrewing the base.
