Brake Dust !!
« on: October 09, 2005, 04:45:36 PM »
Just a quick question with regard to what brake pads are everybody using.
My front wheels are black as the ace of spades after about a week. Now my wife mainly drives my D2 & it is normally short trips to the kids school, bank, hair saloon, post office, stationary supplies, etc.
Is there a pad that doesn't give off so much brake dust as it is beginning to stain the rims.

P.S. - what will help remove the brake dust stain or prevent it??

I'm not sure what will remove the brake dust, but apparently it etches the rims.

EBC Greenstuff pads have almost no dust. I've been using these. The first set on factory rotors were awsome, the second set on EBC slotted rotors fade when pushed really hard. (ie towing down through passes).

There are a number of proprietry concoctions available for cleaning brake dust off rims. The trick is to make is a regular task so that etching is minimised. I also found that using a scotchbite pad (plastic) with detergent got mine cleaned very effectively without damaging the clear coating.

Thanks guy's, I have my 30,000 km service due at the end of the month so I will ask if they will fit the EBC Greenstuff pads. I might ring some time this week to see if they have them available or if I have to get elsewhere.

Slunnie where do you get these pads from & are they readily available, I'm in Brisbane, thanks mate.

Thanks Ian, if I have any more trouble with marks I will try your method, cheers !!

BrakePro is where I got them last. Though I think EBC will give you contacts if BrakePro isn't up there.

I can also vouch for the EBC greenstuff pads - they create far less dust than the factory OEM pads.

I've gone through a couple of sets now, and am reasonably happy with them.  I don't remember them giving me any brake squeal problems either so I'm quite happy about that.
