Any known ECU swap issues?
« on: September 30, 2005, 08:15:17 PM »
Hi, thinking of swapping my stock ECU with an upgraded unit.  Are there any problems with the swap, such as the security system?  Anything I should consider?
Kind Regards, Will Church

I believe the VIN is recorded in the ECM.  IIRC, there was something about Testbook comparing the ECM and BCU vins before doing some sort of update and there was no VIN recorded in the BCU.

Definately needs testbook, you also need the injector codes...they are stored in the ECU. Its NOT a plug & play situation.

Thanks Pete, any idea how long a competent workshop should take to set up 2 ECU's, for a vehicle to vehicle swap?

I would say an hour to R&R & to R&R..so to speak.
Thats with no hiccups, injector codes come out easy etc.

Redback
Where we went to get it done (It was my ECU into Wills vehicle) did ring them and got hold of "good ol Tony" who got all high any mighty as to why he would or should  give them any info as they wern't part of the loop.
As a resiult they never want to talk to Bruce Davis again.

I reakon if they stopped Tony answering the phone it could only help their sales

OK i understand yes have spoke to Tony just recently about installing a Maxidrive, wouldn't give us a parts breakdown so went elsewhere and found a place nearly $600 cheaper.

Bruce is ever the sales man.  ::)

Tony though has been nothing but absolutely excellent to me as long as I have been dealing with Davis Landys. I'm happy with them, and totally confident in the work that they do on my Disco. My assumption is that they are a protective about their chip data as they probably do a lot of business through chip upgrades.

The problem is that if someone has bad customer service, it doesn't matter how good the product is.  Someone else will always produce another goos product, AND have good customer skills as well.  And then they will take the business away from the other guy...  Deservedly so to, IMHO.

True, but if someone has good customer service from the same person, then you ask why the difference.

The problem with Landrovers, is that if you dismiss everybody that serves that brand, then very quickly you run out of specialists. They're not like Toyota's where every man and his dog claim to be a guru. I have heard bad news stories about absolutely every LR specialist/dealer in Sydney. So what are the options? The options are to go on personal experience, which for me has been outstanding at Davis Landys or to go to the dealer at get ripped off for a job half done, or go to someone who knows nothing about LandRovers except that they break down all the time and leak oil. I would argue that there are not many that know LandRovers better than Davis Landys and the work they do is first rate - thats really what matters.

Hi All, I'm up here in Mighty Brisvagas, and have just had my ECU upgraded...I have but 3 words of warning...beware the accelorator!
My 2003 Disco is now a completly different car...i am so in love.  My "I've always been a Cruiser Man" husband is fighting to share the driving!
MR Automotive at Redcliffe will remove your computer, replace it with one of theirs (temp.) and send yours away to be upgraded.  This keeps the same vin etc and is quite hassle free.  Dad has also had his done the same way (in his '04 Disco) and also finds his car a dream to drive.
THe blokes are great to deal with, willing to explain everything to you and will take the time to have a bit of a chat.  Two thumbs up all round for the service.

Hi Will, MR Auto at Redcliffe did the manual work, but the computer is sent to Bruce Davis to be done...best part was that  i didn't have to deal with them!!!  I also had my car serviced at the same time. Cheers, AK
