Well now that the defender has gone (to make way for the 2wd work rodeo) something had to be done to get the disco's guts off the ground.
So for starters in went some new suspension. Lovells springs & bilstein shocks, all custom made to our desired spes (with allot of help from slunnie & his extensive write up on his).

Thanks Simon & Bryan for all your help

Before shots

After shots

Then I had to make some drawers to fit my crap in & incorparate the 110l waceo.

The bearrings used for the drawers, seems to work well & dosn't rattle.

She looks good with that lift and the drawers are great.

How are the Lovell springs, the reason i ask is that i'm in the hunt for new springs as the OME springS crapped themselves on our Simpson trip.

Apart from the fact it took them ages to make as they were a special order, I am really happy with the way they are set up & she handles great.
The only problem I am having is some coil bind on the rear,it is not letting the wheel tuck up as far as it should, but it is all working well. The springs are the same as slunnie's ( I copied his spring rates as I wanted a touring set up, not lots of flex). But saying that, it holds it own.

A couple more pics

This is the fridge from above, showing how much room there is for it to open & close.

The cargo barrier were I had to cut it to fit the drawer system back in. I am going to trim the mesh back further & weld some more of the same size box section up & over the fridge compartment, with a couple tabs welded on the sides to attatch it to the fridge box for stregth. Should be strong as after that. Then sand blast & respray it.

This is where I managed to fit the 2nd battery, it all just fits in, I had to sit the video camera under the bonnet with a torch & just a battery shell to make sure it was all going to fit & not short out.
I Am glad I got it under the bonnet, the usual 8" battery wouldn't have been enough to cope with the fridge (not to mention when I hook up both fridges) & I didn't really want to put a sealed battery in the back of the cargo space permantly.

This is were the 350 watt inverter sits, Attatched to the Back of the drawers in between the drawers & the rear drivers seat.

Gday Gidget, mate the trucks looking good. 33's must be in the pipeline!

Re the rear springs, they dont fully compress as they are setup to hold more weight than normal + they sit higher.

That setup will definately hold its own offroad.
Cheers

Thanks mate, I was going to get around to sending you a pm & ask if thats how the rear springs worked, it compresses to about 75mm of the bump stops, which I extended by 45mm.
It works an absolute treat in the scrub , I went out last thursday & we just about drove the bloody road tyres off it, but it went well.
I am doing a couple of extra jobs this week & next to fund the tyres & a snorkel hopefully. The minister for war & finance has tightened the play fund abit lately. Something about me spending money on these bloody land rovers all the time & then I just get them how I want them, & I sell them.LOL   she seams to be right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,again. So a few extra jobs were called in to get some extra funding.

Thats looking awsome Gidget! Those tyres mean business!!!! You'll be so surprised where that truck will go with this suspension and tyre setup . I also reckon that the JT2's are the best tyres I've had on sand. At 12psi they walk through stuff that bogs others. Offroad they dont come on until you get them down to 15psi though.

Top stuff champion !!

Can't wait to see it in the flesh at LCMP (28-30 Oct).
How much did the JT2's cost ? How do you reckon they will handle rock crawling & do they bag up enough ?
I am in 2 minds as wether to buy 33" JT2's or 285/75/R16 MTR's ? :?

I had 32" mtr's on the defender & was very impressed with them, so much so when the road tyres wear out on the disco I am going to replace them with mtr's for daily drivers & general touring tyres.
But mate apples & oranges, the J/T's give awsome traction, have only had a quick play but when let down under about 15 psi they go awsome, not to sure if I would run them if my main work was in boulder/rock sort of stuff (more the mtr's cup of tea) as they seam a bit stiff in the wall. But for the stuff I play in mainly shaily, gravelly, sand & mud They are awsome. Have had mate's running them on their vehicle's for years & have always been impressed by them.
