ARB side protection bars-are they any good?

I've just discovered these recently,for my Disco 2.has anyone fitted these?

Other questions:
have you tried jacking against them ie Hi lift or Air Jack
how well did they fit
do they provide the protection advertised
are there any alternatives

Yes - I and a couple of others have tried them.  They are relatively weak.  I followed John Hortons lead and welded a piece of RHS along the top under the sill.  This protected the sill well, but the slider still bent when I dropped the car on it, and munched the door.  They are not solid enough to jack the car up on.

As for protecting the side of the car in big deep ruts they are great.

They have got quite expensive now.

Michael Samootin is now building a slider here that is much stronger.  Look in my LRTD5 gallery and you'll see some pics.

I have had aset on my last 2 Disco's and they are limited
I am selling my ARB steps to replace with R/Sliders that Brothers Offroad are building for me out of RHS 100x50x3.
You can drop your 4by on these babies no worries unlike the ARB steps which I wouldn't jack off or hit anything too hard with (OK at crawl pace). As LRTD5 said good to stop roots & rocks in ruts from hitting & the odd shopping trolly & car door !!

I have now purchased ARB steps,i'll bear in mind your advice,unfortunately there are no alternatives out here,other than those that the double the price with shipping from the UK.However the car door protection will come in useful here, as it is a big problem.
Maybe i'll try reinforcing them??
