Slotted cross drilled rotors
« on: October 21, 2004, 07:14:41 AM »
I've noticed in the SLS emergency repair posts that Simon Arch has got slotted/cross drilled rear rotors.  Has anyone else used them, and can Simon and others please give us an idea of their effectiveness and costs, source, wear, you know... all the info...
Kind Regards, Will Church

not cross drilled...

Will,
These are the EBC brakes that Lawrance and others are also using - some are happy with them - some not so - I think they're great - better stopping power than the standard discs (IMHO), and they look BLING!

They are not actually cross drilled - just dimpled, and slotted.

EBC costs - will try and find my receipt again...

cheers

Or just go to www.dba.com.au and get a fantastic aussie made product.
Works as good if not better...
Use them with www.bendix.com.au pads....

I have the EBC and wont be re-fitting them. The DBA/Bendix combo I had on the last vehicle (35" rubber not 33" like now) stopped better.

Cheers
Mike

Hi Will,
I would attend to agree with Mike as 2 of the guys at work have the DBA/Bendix combo and they work exceptionally well.
One of the staff used to run EBC but did not like the fact that they continually squealed at the point of just about to stop, very annoying.
I also think that they are marginally cheaper than the EBC equipment too & u can basically get these from any Burson/Repco store or any brake place. They are easily obtainable.
I have ordered a set for mine(even though its a DS1) Standard gold. So just waiting for them to arrive..

Thanks Mike and Pete...  Can you give me an idea of cost for front and rear standard gold.  Also Bendix pads to suit?
Kind Regards, Will Church

Just to restate - Mike and Pete - I have never had my EBC brakes squeal or fail or any problem...  so there.  But - if you want to go for an inferior product - go right ahead!!!

Righto TJM Boy ;-)

Actually the DBA product is superior in almost every way.

Design, engineering, materials and performance...
I just went the EBC for a try....

Personally I cant wait to wear them out and get rid of them (at least the pads anyhow)

I mean Lara has lost braking effiency about 6 times now.  And cannot on a dry road induce the ABS system under even the hardest braking. An issue she never had on standard brakes

And 'AZZKIKR' running DBA/Bendix and 35's (remember she weighed in over 2.6t) never had a stopping issue, able to lock all 4 35's with a simple press of the brakes!

Plus......... Australian Made..... Must count for something ;-)

Cheers
Mike

I'll pay on the Australian Made issue - but everything else - don't know how you brake - but they work just fine on mine...

ARB boy!!

I would not put cross drilled rotors on at all. The problem with them is they stress the rotor and crack. I've seen a rotor that I 1 day old after a day at the track on a little Peugeot 204 and every crossdrill had a numerous radiating fractures, though the rotor had not yet failed. I had lunch with the boys from Dba Jan last year and even they said that the cross drilled rotors are for bling, and their comp spec units are not cross drilled. Irrespecitive of the manufacturer I wouldn't run cross drilled rotors.

Here are the pics of the Disco EBC rotors. On my Disco they stop well, and the hotter they get the better they pull up, so they are an excellent towing pad. With respect to noise they are totally quiet also.

Cheers
